Shopping Spree Which Left Me Broke

I went to a shopping spree last week which left me broke. I went to the mall to buy my father a present and spending money on clothes wasn’t really a part of the plan. I used my atm card to pay for my bill and almost fainted when I saw how much money was left in my account.

Clothes and shoes were on sale. Hindi ako magkanda-ugaga where to go first. So I decided to look for clothes first since I needed a new pair of pants. After trying on at least half a dozen pair of pants, I decided to give it up. All of them were bitin. That’s the crappy part of being tall — huge feet, long legs and WIDE HIPS. Damn. When I was about to go the shoe section of Landmark, I saw this cute, cut-off pants in Bench that was on sale, and I picked a white sleeveless top on my way to the fitting room. THE PANTS FIT PERFECTLY! Well… it’s a bit tight on the hips but it’s still okay (damn my genes).

I was almost tempted to buy a pair of high heels that were my size but when I started to think of my naghihikaos na bank account, I backed out immediately.

There. I need lots and lots of willpower to resist the temptation of SHOPPING. Or I should just avoid hanging out at the mall…

Laptop Dilemma

Pichu would be gone from me for 2 – 3 weeks. It’s a sacrifice I need to do to have it fixed while it’s still under warranty.

I don’t know how I’ll survive without my laptop. Almost all of my subject relies on the internet for the distribution of the lecture notes. And, it’ll be much cheaper too if I have my laptop, since I don’t have to print out the slides.

So I guess I’ll blog less for the mean time. I’ll be online every once in a while. Haaaaay.

So anyway. I am now falling even MORE in love with my course. The professors in the MMM department are more accommodating and encouraging than my previous professors in IE subjects.

What made me interested in Metallurgical Engineering? The fact that I can earn big when I graduate — that keeps me motivated to do my best to graduate ASAP. I am done with (almost) floating subjects and left only with majors to graduate. The only thing that I can’t imagine right now, is how I’ll manage to work in a far, far, inaccessible workplace. But that’s like what, a year and a half from now? Too early to make plans. =))

B.E.R.N

My professor in MetE15 asked us to introduce ourselves by thinking of an adjective for each letter of our nickname. So here’s what i thought for my nickname:

- BORING - boring ang buhay kung wala si BERN sa mundo 

  -ENTICING - ehem. kaya madaming naaakit. Hahahaha.

- ROMANTIC - kung may Don Romantiko, malamang ako ang Donya ng Romansa. Hahaha. Sinong angal? Ha??

-  NARCISSTIC - I love myself. hahaha. Pero minsan sapagiging sobrang ROMANTIC ko, eh nakakalimutan ko ng mahalin ang sarili ko. IRONIC.

Pero dahil may kahihiyan pa din naman ako, eto ang totoo kong sinabi:

B - oring ang buhay kapag wala ako

I need to learn how to lip-read. ASAP. My soft spoken professor in EnE31 makes it hard for me to concentrate in his class because I can’t understand a word he says. Aside from his barely audible voice, it’s difficult to take-down notes because of his chicken-scratch handwriting.

BARELY AUDIBLE VOICE + CHICKEN SCRATCH HANDWRITING = SLEEPING TIME!!!!

He wants us to be on time, and dismisses us at exactly 2:30. So I have to rush to Engg for my next class (and the prof in my nex t subject doesn’t tolerate tardiness either). He’s a perfectionist and very demanding. He expects all of us to participate in hid boring class and expects (more of requires actually) us to speak in straight English when asking him questions. He said that back in his college days, they were all required to speak in English (and that was in the 1960s pa ata) and that the Philippines was the 3^rd English speaking nation in the world.

He teaches graduate school and I think after a decade of teaching in the academe, the last time he taught undergraduate subjects was years ago. So there. I am still left a whole semester to endure his boring lectures.

I am not a shopaholic!

I really ought to be saving up for my Pichu’s (my laptop’s nickname) g-mask. It costs about 2,000 php and will protect my Pichu from scratches.

I’ve been trying to save money for it, but my savings always end up in shopping sprees. There are a lot of things I really, really want to buy:

v      Sneakers

v      Jansport backpack

v      New Havaianas (since my olds havs was stolen, yet again)

v      G-mask

v      Smackdown tickets (July 10 is only a few weeks away. I should start saving money ASAP)

v      Gift for my nephew (his birthday’s on July19. Oh no. I still don’t have any idea what to give him)

v      New clothes

v      Jeans (there’s this Levi’s jeans that i’ve been eyeing this past few weeks. And I’m itching to buy it ASAP)

v      Shoes (the peach, mary jane in Le Donne

That’s not much now, is it? I have to get a job. Really. I can’t ask my father for money to buy these things!

Oh and yeah. I’m not a shopaholic okay?

Emo moment nina mama at papa

Sa sasakyan habang pauwi kami galing UPLB:

PAPA: Unti-unti na nila tayong iniiwan, Ma.

MAMA: Oo nga eh. Una si ate, tas si Bern. Ngayon si bunso naman ang college na.

On wearing glasses

The last time I had my eyes checked was 5 years ago. I had astigmatism and my eyesight was 50-50 back then. After a year, I lost my glasses and wasn’t able to replace it since then.

These past few months, I’ve been experiencing frequent headaches and difficulty in reading. After 10 minutes of studying/reading, I’d experience dizziness and headache. I’ve been complaining about it and my father promised to take me to an optometrist to have my eyes checked. But because I was busy with school and I was always in QC, I didn’t have enough time in my hands to go to a doctor to have my eyes checked.

Finally, I had the time to go to Executive Optical to have my eyes checked and to get glasses if ever I need one. My eyesight is now 100-125… I need to wear glasses to correct my astigmatism. I got my glasses (frame with lens already) for only 1,045php. I was actually choosing between red and black, but ended up choosing the latter since it’s easier to pair it up with any color of clothing (unlike the red one which only goes with chosen colors).

7 more days to go

            The extended vacation really sucks — 7 more days to go ‘til classes start! I am already running out of ideas of what to do so that I won’t get bored. I can’t get out of the house because I have nowhere to go, and if I do want to go out, my parents won’t let me.

So I’m left with watching tv or playing computer games (which gets boring after a few hours).

I don’t register for unlitext since nobody texts me (oh yeah. I’m such a loser, I know).

When I don’t have anything else to do, I’d sleep for a few minutes then wake up thinking I really ought to have a manicure and pedicure already. But since I’m broke, I can’t afford that right now so I’d have to do it myself (but I’m still too lazy for that).

When I’m not preoccupied with anything (which happens most of the time), I usually get depressed. I think I should also visit a doctor to check if I’m clinically depressed or what.

This sucks. Really.

My blogberry

I decided to finally buy myself a blogberry academic planner. I had my eyes on it since last week. But since I didn’t have an

So anyway… I’m not really one of those people who plan their day. I’m more of a spontaneous person, who buys/uses planner just for the heck of it. I’d be interested in planning for about a month. After that, my planner usually lays along the heap of forgotten and discarded readings. Still.. The planner’s really cute. It comes in three colors: blue, green and red. I chose the red one. It also comes along with a free Bic ballpen and a Hallmark bookmark.

Today, I learned:

v      To read important announcements

v      Some people think they have every right to bitch out because they are of authority and think they know everything… When they actually, really don’t.

v      Bioflu and Cefalexin makes me dizzy

v      Not all storeowners have change for 500 as early as 6 in the morning

v      He still reads my blog

v      He’s still my number one fan

v      Not to keep my hopes up

v      Not to jump into conclusions because it might only cause you disappointment in the end

And I have to learn some of those things the hard way…

And I really thought he still reads my blog. Pero hindi naman pala. So I got disappointed. Should’ve not jumped into conclusions kagad. Howell.

My temperature went down only yesterday, after lots and lots of water and bioflu. I was worrying that I was going through symptoms of the A(H1N1) virus, but thank God I was wrong and I’m actually recovering now. Praning lang ako talaga. Hahaha.

TAPOS NA AKO MAGENROLL! WOOHOO!

Finally… TAPOS NA AKO MAGENROLL! Kitam. Kung hindi lang mabagal ang admin dapat last week pa ako tapos mag enroll. It only took me less than 3 hours to finish my enrollment today. I got my readmission slip by 9:30, then went to OUR to fill up the student directory. Afterwards, went back to engg for pre-advising and enlistment. Since I only have 15 units this sem, I tried to enlist in other subjects (para nga naman di saying ang sem).

 Went to physics pav for physics73.1. When I asked if there were any slots left, the lady in the director’s office told me that I should have read the note at the guard before going there. Eh ang labo kaya ng nakalagay dun sa note. HIndi naman nakalagay dun na ang enlistment ng mga physics subject ay sa CSRC. Ang nakalagay lang dun:

 ‘To those students who have an appointment with Dr. I-forgot-his-name, please proceed to the CSRC building.’ ANG LABOOO talaga. Kaya badtrip.

Galing physics pav, naglakad ako sa CSRC… Grabe! Kalbaryo! Ang layo. Puro paltos na ata ang paa ko. At dahil makapal ang mukha ko, sumingit na lang ako  dun. Kaya in less than 5mins, may physics73.1 na ako.

 After CSRC, lakad naman papuntang NIGS para sa geol subject. Umaasa akong may geol11.1 o kaya geol40 para man lang makapag 17 o 19 units ako. Sa kasamaang palad, wala na daw slots. At ang nakalagay sa pintuan ng director’s office nila:

‘Wala ng slots sa geol 1, 11, at 11.1Parang awa niyo na. Wag na kayong makulit please.’

At dahil talaga wala na akong makuhang subject, nag decide ako na mag 16units na lang. At masaya din ako dahil maluwag ang schedule ko.

11am ng matapos ako sa NIGS. Kaya binilisan ko makabalik ng engg para makapag post-advise and assessment na ako. O kitam. By 11:30 tapos na ako. Bayad na lang. Sayang ang mga oras na itinambay ko sa engg last week. Wala namang nangyari sa akin.

Extended Vacation

UPD Start of classes moved to June16 in view of extension of registration, and the DOH advisory on A(H1N1). Anjustment in academic calendar to follow.

This was the first text message I read when I woke up this morning. I was actually disappointed rather than get excited by the extended vacation. I was really looking forward to the start of classes on June9… I even bought my school supplies already.

I just really needed something to get my mind off some things. My summer didn’t really go that well. Every day was like a punishment that I had to go through and I tried my best to be pre-occupied most of the time so I can ignore the thoughts that’s been trying to claw its way out when I’m not doing anything.

Oh well. I guess a few extra days of vacation won’t hurt.

Bad Weather

REGCOMM ADVISORY: Registration has been cancelled today due to the bad weather.

I’ve been spending the whole day in school since yesterday, appealing to be readmitted in the college. Apparently, I wasn’t able to comply with all the conditions stated in my contract last semester. So now, I have to suffer the mala-turtle na bilis ng engg in approving/denying readmission forms.

CRS gave me 5 subjects (12 units) and I still need to enlist in EM10 and MetE11. It’s been 2 days already since I submitted my readmission form, and until now the admin hasn’t released the complete list of approved/denied appeals to be readmitted to the college. I’ve been uneasy since yesterday — going to the regcomm booth every now and then, nervously checking if I was approved (hurrah!) or denied (BOO!). The MMM department chair is really not one of those encouraging people who will tap your back for a job well done, nor will she give encouragement to those who need it. The last time I talked to her, she told me that I wasn’t meant for engineering and should consider shifting to another course. I was like, ‘cmon! After all those math and physics series, the tears, puyatan and cramming, she’ll tell me that I should shift to another course?!’

So anyway, I’m still hoping and praying that I would see my student number in the list of those who were approved to be readmitted by tomorrow.
